Charlie’s Group Limited is a New Zealand owned company listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange. It is a significant player in the New Zealand beverage market, and increasingly in Australia and South East Asia. Its principal brands Charlie’s and Phoenix Organics are household names. Charlie’s brand recognition is higher than any other juice brand in New Zealand* while Phoenix is the New Zealand market leader in organic beverages.

The business was established in 1999 and floated on the New Zealand Stock Exchange in July 2005. Not long after in December 2005, the company bought and integrated Phoenix Organics Group into its business.

Summary of highlights for the 2010 financial year

  • Group net profit after tax $2.5 million
  • Record EBITDA of $3.4 million (2009: $0.9 million loss)
  • NPAT from core operations of $1.3 million (2009: $1.8 million loss)
  • Record gross sales of $34.3 million, up 1.7% year on year1
  • 39% sales growth in Australia and 33% growth in other international markets
  • Case sales up 5% to 1.3 million cases
  • Results include $1.2 million profit on sale of Henderson property
  • Reduction in net debt from $7.1m to $1.6m during the year
  • Significantly reduced debt to equity ratio to 21% at 30 June 2010 compared with 53% at 30 June 2009
